New York Botanical Garden Leon Levy Visitor Center
PROJECT DETAILS
The completed New York Botanical Garden Leon Levy Visitor Center is a stunning addition to one of New York City’s great cultural landmarks. The new Visitor Center, with construction completed by EW Howell Construction Group, acts as a grand entrance to the Botanical Garden and provides an entry loggia, a café building, retail space, as well as restrooms. The design of the three one-story buildings offers an area of 20,700 square feet. These structures provide a simple but bold effect: arched glu-lam wood beams follow the contours of the clamshell roofs, supported by exposed vertical structural steel members.
The Visitor Center was declared winner of the GBC Build New York Award for 2004 and New York Construction’s Best of ‘04 award in the cultural category.
