This Montaukett Learning Center project includes new construction of a 40,000-square-foot academic building on the Suffolk County Community College Riverhead campus. The building contains a small library, classrooms, lecture rooms, study rooms, and offices.

The project had a tight construction schedule, requiring completion by the end of 2010 in order for the building to be open and in use by students in time for the spring semester. Some of the elements of Montaukett that stood out were:

• A combination of brick, a glass curtainwall, metal soffits and a sunshade structure on the exterior of the building
• 30-foot-high metal panel ceilings, glass railings and unique linoleum floor patterns in the interior of the building

After EW Howell Construction Group successfully completed the SUNY Stony Brook Southampton Library in 2009, the Montaukett Learning Center was a natural fit.
