Finished Good Samaritan University Hospital Patient Care Pavilion

Good Samaritan University Hospital, Patient Care Pavilion

EW Howell provided pre-construction and construction services for the new 300,000-square-foot Good Samaritan University Hospital Patient Care Pavilion.

The scope of work on the project includes the modernization of the emergency department, a state-of-the-art operating suite, a new 75-room emergency department, a new 16-room surgical suite (including perioperative and support space), an inpatient bed floor with up to 42 inpatient beds, a new central sterile supply/sterile processing department, and mechanical space. The new Pavilion addition is located adjacent to the existing North Wing of Good Samaritan University Hospital Medical Center.

The new Pavilion construction disrupted the function of the Hospital’s main entrance, a new temporary main entrance was designed on the south side of the hospital.

The first major expansion in over 30 years, the Patient Care Pavilion was deemed essential to meet current and future healthcare needs. The state-of-the-art expansion will elevate the hospital to a Level 1 Trauma Center, providing the highest level of trauma care. Seriously injured patients have an increased survival rate of 25% compared to those not treated at a Level 1 center. The facility has been designed with high-quality finishes, hospitality-inspired form and patient-centric services, with ready access to operating rooms, critical care units and in-patient beds within the hospital’s level-two adult and pediatric trauma program.

The Good Samaritan University Hospital Patient Care Pavilion project was recognized by Long Island Business News’ 2023 Real Estate, Architecture & Engineering Awards in the Top Healthcare Project category.
