TOMMIE L. AGEE EDUCATIONAL CAMPUS (IS 419)

PROJECT DETAILS

This new 98,000-square-foot middle school project consisted of the construction of 5 floors and a partial cellar. Located in Flushing, NY, the Tommie L. Agee Educational Campus (IS 419), which was named in recognition of the legendary Mets outfielder, Tommie Agee, accommodates 646 students in grades 6 – 8.

This building, situated in East Elmhurst adjacent to the nearby LaGuardia Airport, is fully air-conditioned and includes new classrooms, a science lab and prep room, an art room, a music room, a library, a gymatorium, an exercise room, an outdoor playground, administration offices, a kitchen, and a cafeteria. Providing 18 standard classrooms and 2 district special educational classrooms, the school is well-equipped to provide a nurturing learning environment for all students.

One of the school’s more unique elements is its District 75 program. This contains eight additional classrooms with student rooms, occupational and physical therapy rooms, a guidance room, and a multipurpose room.

On August 26, 2022, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the school’s opening. Among those in attendance were members of the 1969 Mets, various elected officials, and family members of Agee. In addition to the school, attendees spoke about Agee’s love for the community. During this ceremony, it was announced that August 22 would be “Tommie Lee Agee Day.”

IS 419 is a Certified Green School by NYC School Construction Authority standards, marking the campus as a model of sustainable design and construction.

In October 2023, IS 419 was recognized by the Queens Chamber of Commerce, receiving the Building Recognition Award in 2023 for New Construction – Schools & Colleges.
