Stony Brook University Student Union Building

Stony Brook University, Student Union

The Stony Brook University Student Union Rehabilitation project included the total removal of all elements down to the existing poured-in-place waffle slab concrete structure, followed by a complete interior renovation and rehab of the building envelope, including, but not limited to structural modification, new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and elevator systems.

The original 1967 building was used as an internal ‘Main Street’ connecting the North and South sides of the campus. Those 2 entries and that internal street arcade had to be preserved and visually strengthened. The newly renovated facility provides a holistic approach to addressing students’ needs, as a home of centralized services, programs and initiatives to provide a more efficient and holistic campus experience.

The Stony Brook University Student Union project was recognized at the 2020 Long Island Business News Real Estate, Architecture & Engineering Awards in the Top Education Project – Suffolk category.
