The scope of the Stony Brook University Building J Apartments project included the new construction of a 52,600-square-foot, 173-bed dormitory. The building is 3 stories with 10 suites per floor. Each suite consists of 6 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and a common living space. The first floor features 2 handicap accessible suites with 4 bedrooms.
The building was constructed to replicate the architectural style, layout, and finishes of the existing West Apartment buildings, while simultaneously updating the construction materials to be more durable and energy efficient.
This was EW Howell Construction Group’s 4th dormitory at project SUNY Stony Brook.
The project was completed in 2018.
The Building J Apartments project is LEED Silver certified.
